Prof. Dr. Ravi Shankar, from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research institute, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, India offered a lecture on Statistics, ethics and epidemiological studies. He highlighted importance of ethics while doing the clinical trials and issues related to human safety and efficacy. He discussed various sampling strategies, calculation methods for epidemiological studies. He also presented various cases with practical explanations. His lecture was well appreciated.
Prof. Dr. Chandrakant Mhaske, Dean – Government Medical College, Nanded, Maharashtra India spoke on “Indian medical ethical guidelines and the need to teach bioethics in clinical settings. He described in detailed the bioethics guidelines applicable in developing country like India. He also highlighted important ethical issues and problems. At the end of the presentation he presented few ethical dilemmas in clinical practice. His presentation was very informative and was well received.
Prof. Dr. Ifeoma Okoye, University of Nigeria, Enugu, Nigeria spoke on “Roads to health in Nigeria, social and ethical aspects”. She highlighted the educational system in Nigeria, gender differences, cultural issues.
She also stressed the need for compulsory and affordable health care insurance in African countries for benefit of citizens. Students liked her lecture and there was a good interaction.
Prof. Dr. Pierre Effa, University Yaoundé, Ethics and Bioethics Research Centre, Cameroon, spoke on the roadmap of the African Union on ethics in medical research. Prof. Effa represents “The Pan African Congress for Ethics and Bioethics (COPAB)”. He talked on establishing and operationalizing of an Ethics and Bioethics Forum at the national, regional, continental and global levels in Africa, as well as at university centers. He also expressed his deep interest to work in close co-operation with HSH UNESCO Bioethics unit. His presentation was well appreciated.
Last but not the least Prof. Dr. Fortwengel’s team – Dr. Dnyanesh Limaye, Dr. Sam Ibeneme, Dr. Vaidehi Limaye, Dr. Christina Mhaske, and Mr. Firas Fneish had a successful meetings with the guest. This gave all of us to chart out new projects with co-operating partners and to explore the interesting areas of Bioethics.
